Daddy’s Smile
He tugged and tugged at the covers.
Not enough strength to pull them up,
With love, I tucked him in.
Just as a mother would tuck her child in tight.
I tucked my daddy in to sleep for the night.
In a world where actions speak louder than words,
Daddy’s smile always said so much.
Once covered, he flashed his sweet smile at me.
His smile said, “I love you so much and thank you.”
With a smile, audibly, I replied, “Daddy, I love you too.”
The sweetest man that I’ve ever known
Was preparing to be with his Lord.
What a privilege to care for this kind soul.
He, who cared for our family and me,
Great his reward and long live his legacy.
As I looked at my daddy,
I thanked God for this humble man
Who lived life not for himself.
I sat at his bedside as he fell asleep,
While thanking God for his smile I’d forever keep.
My mind wandered and wished
That I could bottle Daddy’s smile
For our family, until we’d see him again.
His smile was his legacy of love so rich and deep.
For his children and grandchildren, Daddy’s smile would forever keep.
